Today was a high of 97 degrees. Yuck. We headed out of the city and drove North to Gunpowder Falls State Park. Our plan was to hike for a little while, and then go swimming in the river. However, the park is so huge (18,000 acres) and their website is so minimal that we couldn't figure out where the trail heads were for hiking. After driving around for a while we decided to just head for the river and go swimming.
I was picturing a little, cold, rocky river for wading, but it was a huge river, and there was a small beach, very warm water, trees, and lots of wind. Between the shade and the wind it was quite pleasant. There is a separate beach area designated for windsurfing, so it must always be windy there. Ainsleigh started off building some sand castles, but once we convinced her to go in the water she wanted to go in again and again.
Here is Ainsleigh taking a juice break with Ripken (who was relegated to the shade). It was a nice park, although we still have no clue where all the trails are!

Sounds like a cool park! Good luck finding the trails! I'm sure you'll be back there several times before you head home at the end of summer! :o)
How nice to have found a nice beach -- with shade!! Too bad on the hiking. Hanging out on the beach is more fun anyway (in my opinion). :o)
What an action packed summer you all are having. Emma has been stuck indoor most days since Mary was born and the heat increased. Emma and I always enjoy seeing what fun things you and Ainsleigh are up to.
