One of the annual events at Ainsleigh's preschool is the 4 year old circus performance. The two classes team up--and dress up--as all things circus: tigers, elephants, ponies, acrobats, strongmen, and the like. Ainsleigh was a clown--which was definitely an inspired casting decision. I don't recall when I started saying it, certainly over a year ago: this girl belongs on a stage. She is not shy or in any way self-conscious and she loves the spotlight. Put that together with her memory, and she is off to a very good start. We have video of her performance but let's be honest, that will probably never make the blog because of the amount of editing I'd have to do. Ainsleigh and the clowns appeared four (brief) times throughout the show. Once in a clown parade, once to clean up after the elephants, once to perform a disappearing trick on a fellow clown, and finally--and the climax of the entire show, I might add--for Ainsleigh to steal some jewels from a safe and then get chased down by the other clown police. She actually had to do a little acting for the last scene, which she did quite well. And I'm not the only one who thought so, all of her teachers and several parents came up to me afterwards and told me what a natural she was. It was certainly nice to hear, although nothing we didn't already know. Here are the still shots.

Ainsleigh and her good friend, Amelia. Amelia is in the other 4 year old class but she lives in our neighborhood and we carpool together so they see each other quite a bit. Plus all of the kids play together on the playground during the day.
They don't suffer from lack of confidence!
After the performance I took the girls out to Maple View Farms for ice cream. Maple View is a local family dairy farm and a new family staple, since we now live just a few minutes away. It's a nice setting out in the country and there is a big porch overlooking the farm on which to enjoy your ice cream. There are plenty of rocking chairs to share with you if you're ever out this way!
